On March 18, 2026, a meeting was held between Ambassador Farid Talibov and Deputy Parliamentary Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, Ms. Eri Arfiya. During the meeting, Ambassador F. Talibov emphasized the dynamic development of relations between Azerbaijan and Japan, and noted that there are favorable opportunities for expanding political dialogue, economic cooperation, energy, transport, investment and other areas of interaction between our countries. During the meeting, F. Talibov provided information on the importance of the WUF13 forum, the symbolic and practical aspects of Baku's hosting, emphasized the importance of Japan's participation in this event, and also touched upon Azerbaijan's experience in hosting international events, including the World Sumo Championship. He provided information on the situation in the region, in particular, the drone attack on Nakhchivan by Iran and the risks it poses to regional and international security, and noted that Azerbaijan has restored its territorial integrity and sovereignty after 2020, as well as the start of the peace process with Armenia. Ms. Eri Arfiya highly appreciated Azerbaijan-Japan relations, expressed their interest in expanding cooperation, expressed concern about tensions in the region, and emphasized the importance of developing economic relations, cooperation in the field of decarbonization, and people-to-people contacts.
